Theoretical substantiation of the use of the term «Temporomandibular disorders» and their taxonomic classification in the organization and conduct of epidemiological and clinical studies

Summary. A bibliographic analysis of domestic and international scientific sources has been carried out and the use of the term «temporomandibular disorders», as well as the taxonomic classification of temporomandibular disorders as a methodological basis in organizing and conducting our own research, has been substantiated.
Purpose. To study the possibilities of using the Taxonomic Classification of Temporomandibular Disorders in order to concretize and expand the conceptual guidelines when planning their own epidemiological and clinical studies.
Results and its discussion. Taxonomic classification unites groups of temporomandibular disorders in a hierarchical structure based on the analysis of their inherent clinical features according to diagnostic criteria when conducting a protocol of clinical examination methods. The formulation of an accurate diagnosis is one of the basic principles on which the complex and multi-level system of treatment and prevention of temporomandibular disorders is based.
Conclusions. The use of taxonomic classification of temporomandibular disorders opens up wide possibilities for conducting and analyzing epidemiological and clinical studies in Ukraine, as well as discussing them at international scientific meetings.
