Abstract

Summary. In order to determine the additional diagnostic criteria, and to predict the course of generalized periodontal diseases – generalized chronic catarrhal gingivitis and generalized parodontitis in children with atopic dermatitis, background level of serotonin cytokines has been investigated.
Materials and methods. The research was conducted in two groups of children 6-12 years old with GCCG associated with Ig E-dependent form of atopic dermatitis (AD) (42 children) and IgE-independent form of AD (37 children). The level of serum cytokines (IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-13, TNF-α and IFN-γ) was determined using a solid phase immunofermental analysis (ELISA) with the immunofermental analysis STAT-FAX-303 PLUS (the USA) with wavelengths of 492 nm and commercial sets of test systems of the firms «IMMUNOTECH» and «DIACLONE» (France).
Results. In children with GCCG associated with IgE-dependent form AD a significant increase in expression of IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 with an concomitant reduction in expression IFN-γ was observed in compared to the course of GCCG against the background of IgE-independent form AD, respectively, in 1,6; 2,5 and 1,2 times, and
with control – respectively 1,7; 3,7; 1,4 times; a pronounced decrease in the IFN-γ and TNF-α concentration in 2.6 and 3 fold in the group with an IgE-independent AD and 2.4 and 6.0 in control.
Conclusions. High levels of serum cytokines IL-2, IL-5 in children with generalized chronic catarrhal gingivitis associated with IgE-dependent forms of atopic dermatitis confirm the probable relationship between the concentration of cytokines and the formation of chronic inflammation in the periodontal disease, and provided that the concentration of TNF-α and IFN-γ can be reduced, may serve as an important criterion for differential diagnosis of various forms of AD, as well as a marker of potential development and a predictor of the progression of the pathological process.
Key words: generalized chronic catarrhal gingivitis, generalized periodontitis, atopic dermatitis, serum cytokines in the parodontal diseases.
