Abstract

Abstract. The main etiological factor in the formation of narrowing of the dental rows is a violation of the function of breathing and, as a consequence, a bad habit – mouth breathing. The first causes that cause the appearance of oral breathing: hypertrophy of adenoids and tonsils, rhinitis, curvature of the nasal septum, foreign bodies, nasal polyposis. The development of the airways and facial skeleton are closely interrelated: mouth breathing slows down the growth and narrowing of the maxillary sinuses and upper jaw, which causes the formation of the Gothic shape of the palate. The etiopathogenetic mechanism for the development of narrowing of the dental rows is very diverse, but information on the relationship between the narrowed dental rows and the nasal cavity, which determines changes in the facial skull, is not enough.
Key words. Violation of the nasal breathing, oral breathing, narrowing of the upper jaw, sagittal bite anomalies
