Abstract

Relevance. The study is dedicated to improving prosthetic dentistry teaching, namely its sections devoted to removable dental prosthetics. The authors analyzed the current trends in the clinical practice of removable prosthetics and the degree of their reflection in the curricula for students of the Stomatological faculty of the Bohomolеts National Medical University. Special educational courses were proposed, and recommendations were made to improve the ‘Prosthetic Dentistry’ discipline teaching.

Aim: improve the quality of training of higher education applicants (specialty 221 ‘Dentistry’) by updating educational programs following modern qualification conditions.

Results and discussion. In modern prosthetic dentistry, there is a tendency to abandon traditional removable prostheses, resulting in the increased use of dental implants. Despite the decrease in use, the need for removable prostheses remains among patients with complete tooth loss, even with dental implantation. In cases where it is possible to install only single implants, patients with edentulous jaws are rehabilitated using removable prosthetic structures. The implementation of advanced technologies in practice led to a review of the clinical role of removable prosthetic structures and the improvement of their manufacturing process. Educational programs in prosthetic dentistry need to be supplemented and updated per the needs of modern clinical practice.

Conclusions. The content of educational programs for students of 3–5 courses of Stomatological faculty needs to be supplemented and improved, considering modern clinical trends. The Prosthetic Dentistry Department of the Bohomolеts National Medical University created a specialized course for students to study modern removable prosthetics. Also, a study guide dedicated to the clinical and technological aspects of modern removable prosthetics was created.
