Abstract

Resume. The article deals with the problem of formation of communicative competence among students of dental faculty of the NMU. Effective doctor-patient interaction helps patients make more sound decisions on treatment and prevention of dental diseases. The step-by-step system of developing communication skills based on the integration of humanities (philosophy, psychology, linguistic disciplines) and specialized clinical disciplines has been introduced in the NMU. The investigation has involved students of the 4th and 5th years of study (30 and 28 students, respectively) of the dental faculty of the NMU within the period 2018–2019. The students were taking patients with various dental diseases. Patients with chronic catarrhal gingivitis (16 patients), generalized periodontitis (27), red lichen planus (5), and leukoplakia (7) have been included for observation. Due to the results of the research, the necessity of improving the process of formation students’ communication skills within studying disciplines of the dental cycle has been identified as well as increasing of the professionalism of teachers and introduction of up to-date methods of assessing communication skills.
